HOW TO GET STARTED This information is intended to provide answers to questions you may have about our work. Please feel free to ask any questions you have at any time. Training, Experience and Qualifications: You will find our credentials and specializations in the section entitled ABOUT Lori and ABOUT Vanessa. Over the years, we have gained experience in individual, group, couples and family psychotherapy with youth and adults on a variety of issues including childhood and adult trauma, drug and alcohol use, sexual orientation, gender identity, sexual diversity, loss, relationships, cultural/ethnic identity, self-esteem, and dealing with oppression. We have supervised other therapists and have provided training to service providers in group work and working with marginalized groups including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and transsexual, two-spirit, intersex, queer and queer questioning (LGBTTTIQ) communities and in the areas of Harm Reduction, Grief & Loss, Attitudes, Values and Beliefs, HIV, Substance Use/Addictions, Models of Treatment, Sexual Assault and Violence Issues, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Sexual Diversity, Organization and Team Development, program and community development, proposal writing etc. Approaches: We use a variety of approaches in working with clients, depending on what they request and what we think might be helpful in the specific moment. This can include gestalt, interpersonal/relational, narrative, brief solution focused, cognitive-behavioural, motivational counseling and mindfulness. We also see the dialogue that we have during sessions to be an important part of the therapy process. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call and ask questions. From time to time our practice becomes full and we are unable to accept new clients. However, we may be able to refer you to a colleague who has space. Confidentiality: We keep what we discuss together strictly confidential. The only exceptions to this are when disclosure is required by law (if you or someone else is in imminent danger of harming themselves or others, or if you discuss a situation in which a child is in danger). In these exceptions, we will always try to inform you in advance before proceeding. If you would like me to consult with someone on your behalf (i.e., another care provider you are seeing), we will discuss this with you and ask you to sign a release providing me with permission to do so in advance. Fees and payment: $95 per fifty minute session (GST included) payable by cash, debit, Visa, Mastercard, American Express. Cancellation and missed appointments: 24 hours notice is required so that we may book someone else into the time slot. You are financially responsible for missed appointments and a fee of $50.00 will be charged for appointments cancelled with less that 24 hours notice. Telephone calls: We respond to phone calls usually within 48 hours. We accept phone calls from clients in crisis and will usually spend 10-15 minutes on the phone. We may request payment for more frequent or extended crisis calls. Feel free to call for your appointment or if you have additional questions:
